Participation - General
-
Who is eligible to participate?
Regular full or part-time employees within Georgia Power.
-
May I work on this during regular business hours?
Employees are encouraged to use their understanding of the business to craft ideas for entries as long as idea development does not adversely affect job performance. However, time spent working on submissions outside of normal work hours will not be treated as hours worked.
-
Is there an iLab work order I should charge my time to?
No.
-
Do I have to notify my manager that I am submitting an iLab entry?
Employees may choose to notify their manager if they wish. If normal job activities will be affected by participation, then notification of management is required.
-
Can my manager require me to submit an entry?
While managers are encouraged to support employees wanting to submit entries, submitting entries in iLab is voluntary and is not a requirement of an employee’s job.
-
Can I withdraw my entry?
Once submitted, entries become the intellectual property of Georgia Power and cannot be withdrawn.
-
Can I use resources outside the company to develop my idea?
Outside resources utilized in the concept development could create an intellectual property liability for the company. Entrants will be required to confirm that Georgia Power is the “owner” of the original idea and affirm they are complying with all applicable company policies.
-
Can I receive help from other employees outside my organization to develop my idea?
Yes, we encourage teams to submit ideas as well.
-
I’m having trouble accessing the system. Who do I call?
Please e-mail ilab@southernco.com for any issues accessing the system.

Participation - Teams
-
May I assemble a team of people to submit an entry together?
Yes. After an idea has been published on the iLab site, the idea owner can add team members. Employees can also ask to join an idea team but the idea owner must approve the team member in order to be added. All of this can be accomplished automatically within iLab.
-
How many people are allowed to be on a team?
Teams can consist of as many people as needed to develop the entry but any potential incentives will be capped on a per-team basis and will be distributed equally among team members.
-
Who can be on my team?
Teams can only be assembled of regular full or part-time employees within Georgia Power.
-
How many teams am I allowed to be on?
Employees are allowed to be on multiple teams; however, keep in mind that participation cannot interfere with existing job responsibilities.
-
Can my manager require me to be on his/her team?
No. Participation in iLab as a team member is completely voluntary.
-
Entries and Submissions
-
How do I submit an iLab entry?
Choose the iLab platform your idea is applicable to (Money Makers, Money Savers, or Problem Solvers) and select post idea.
-
What happens once my entry is submitted?
Once an entry is submitted, other employees at Georgia Power are able to review submissions, rate the idea and comment on the idea.
-
How are ideas rated?
Rating is based on the idea feasibility.
-
Can I submit an entry or comment on an idea anonymously?
Yes, if preferred although we do not encourage this in the spirit of collaboration and transparency. Click on your name at the top for your user profile settings.
-
If I comment on an idea, am I now on the team?
No. Commenting on an idea does not establish membership on the team. The idea submitter determines who is on the team and invites members to serve on the team.
-
How will the idea selection process work?
The selection process will be a combination of employee rating and panel review. Employee ratings and comments will begin the process by determining the ideas to move on to Evaluation Review. The evaluation review panel will then determine if a business case can be developed for ideas submitted in the Money Makers panel, and if a business transformation will be made in the Money Savers panel.
-
How are the ideas for Evaluation review selected?
Ideas will be measured on ratings and comments and successful ideas will be graduated to evaluation.
-
Is a formal presentation required during this contest, as it was in SO Prize?
No.
-
Can I access the iLab site from a mobile phone?
An iLab app is available in the Southern Company Application Catalog. Just look for the iLab logo and download it to your mobile phone.
-
What if I have a question about my submission?
Please contact ilab@southernco.com.
-
Review Process
-
What if more than one employee/team submits the same idea?
If multiple, similar iLab entries are submitted, the Market Strategy and Business Development Team will review ideas and determine if they can enhance one another. It may be suggested that the idea owners form a team. Employees submitting similar ideas may form teams to work together to expand upon those ideas.
-
How will I know if my entry has made it to the next round?
All entrants will be notified as their entry moves through the process. In addition, those following an idea will also receive emails as ideas move ahead or are placed in the parking lot for future consideration. The default is for the Following box to be checked.
-
Miscellaneous

Who owns the intellectual property of the entry once submitted?
Ideas submitted through iLab become the company’s intellectual property.
-
What happens to other ideas that are submitted but do not move forward?
They will be archived should an evaluation of the idea be warranted in the future.
